24 years since the last Streets of Rage game, a surprise on a Monday afternoon.
Fans of the classic Sega Genesis games Streets of Rage (or Bare Knuckle in Japan) have been waiting a long time for a new entry into the series – and now Lizardcube, Guard Crush and Dotemu have all taken to Twitter to announce a fourth game, 24 years since the last installment.

The reveal trailer tells us a few things – firstly, series mainstays Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding will return as the two main characters – it’s unclear whether the third person in the trailer is a third playable character (as would be traditional for a Streets of Rage title) or a villain – my money’s on the latter. She is standing in flames, after all.
The game has a new, updated comic book-influenced graphical style from the team behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, and retains the classic 2D side-scrolling beat-’em-up mechanics that we know and love.
As yet, there’s no release date or platforms confirmed for the game, but if it isn’t on all three major consoles I’d be very surprised. More information is available on the official website.
